Panelist – Atty. Vic Dimagiba, President, Laban Konsyumer Inc.
This is an opportunity to introduce to the Bangkok Sentral ng Pilipinas a research study on consumer advocacy in financial services and products. The study was a project of the Consumers International and the Consultative Group to assist the poor or CGAP which is partly funded by the World Bank.
Laban Konsyumer Inc. is a full-term member of the Consumers International and together with other 36 members from low- and middle-income countries participated in the survey. The research study was the subject of my weekly column in the Manila Bulletin called Consumer Hotline. It was printed in the April 3, 2021 and April 17, 2021 issues of the Manila Bulletin. I will be sending you the soft copy of the summary of the research study .
The research study identified what roles consumer organizations can contribute in empowering consumers on financial services and products from around 30 countries that belongs to the low- and middle-income categories.
The project next phase is to develop a training need assessments of consumer organizations and their members to widen capacity building and knowledge of consumers in the use of financial services and products. Our group have signed up to fill up the survey forms when they are available.
I believe that the Digital transformation roadmap should include a consumer’s information and education campaign on the advantages of using financial products and services. It should be plain, simple and can reach consumers that essentially need support gaining new knowledge and practices . Thank you.
