Sir / Madam:
We respectfully submit the following reports and suggestions .
- Based on our price monitoring in the Commonwealth public market last Saturday , February 20, 2021 , liempo costs 320, 310, 300 , 300, 300; kasim costs 290,290,290, 280 and whole chicken is 160 in four stalls ; all in pesos per kilo . However in a satellite wet market near Commonwealth , liempo costs 380 and 390 , whole chicken is 190 and 170 and kasim 260 and 280 pesos per kilo .
- We are waiting for any report of the Economic Intelligencé Task Force created by the President composed of the DTI,DA, DOJ, DILG,NBI,PNP,PCC,BOC,NSC and NICA on the allegation of price collusion ,cartel and profiteering , and whether charges if any, against public and / or private persons have been filed with the proper authorities .
- The implementing agencies under the Price Act should start to utilize Section 9 thru the appropriation in the regular budget of a Buffer Fund for the purpose of ensuring stable supply and reasonable prices of basic necessities and prime commodities.
- Given the difficulty of job security as well as underemployment due to the pandemic, we may see the consumers shifting from buying meat products to other cheaper basic necessities and prime commodities or not buying at all. With vendors stopping to sell meat products, this shift in consmer spending is not at all bad but very alarming because consumers right of access to meat products is denied due to high prices .
Thank you very much .
Very truly yours,
Atty. Victorio Mario A. Dimagiba, AB, LLB, LLM
President
